Don’t Be Stupid, Tap Early.
This is a lesson I give to all my students.
In practice, if you get caught in a submission, tap early. Don’t be a tough guy and try to muscle out of everything.
All it takes is a couple seconds too long in a submission to pull something or hurt a joint. And suddenly, you’re out of training for 6 months.
So 6 months ago, I was rolling with one of the best omoplata guys in the game, Osvaldo “Queixinho” Moizinho. And since it was a competition practice, we were going hard.
Osvaldo is a fucking beast and managed to catch me in an omoplata. But instead of tapping, I wanted to try to fight my way out of it.
And I paid the price for it.
If I would’ve followed my own advice, I wouldn't have a busted up shoulder.
The moral of the story is tapping doesn’t make you a pussy, it’s the smart thing to do. Especially if you’re rolling with a world champion.
Surgery or Tijuana?
So I had a couple options to heal my shoulder.
I could get put to sleep and get surgery, but I know how unhealthy that is. Or I could make a trip down to Tijuana, Mexico to a place called CPI Stem Cells.
I heard about CPI from Joe Rogan and Eddie Bravo. They’ve talked about it a lot on Joe’s podcast, so I decided to hit them up.
CPI gave me an appointment, I made my way down to their facility, and the overall experience was great.
They injected 40 million stem cells into my shoulder. And it fucking hurt. They said hips and shoulders are the most painful spots. Good thing I only needed to treat one shoulder.
There was an older woman who was also getting stem cells in both her shoulders and if she could do it, I could tough it out. Aside from that, I got treatments all week, everything from NAD IV drips to hyperbaric chambers. CPI has a whole list of amazing treatments for different injuries.
Not only that, I might’ve gotten a little dose of stem cells in my… wiener. It was free. I learned about the health benefits from Ben Greenfield, so I said fuck it.
And this is new cutting edge shit. The treatments they have can heal joints and possibly grow back cartilage. I really recommend it for people who want to heal anything from discs in their back, knees, neck, or shoulders.
I’m about 1 week into recovery from my own treatment, still pretty sore. And if you’re wondering, my peeper isn’t sore at all. But it does feel plump.
I’ll keep you guys updated on the process and any benefits I see.
I definitely recommend doing your own research. If you want to check out CPI, I’m gonna leave a link below.

UFC 281 Thoughts
Big pay-per-view this weekend. MSG shows are always a banger.
So I want to talk about the two fights I’m looking forward to the most on the UFC 281 card.
Dustin Poirier vs. Michael Chandler
Holy smokes, this is a fucking helluva fight.
Dustin has some of the best boxing in the UFC, especially from the southpaw position. And Michael Chandler is one of the most explosive hard hitting athletes in the UFC.
So here’s how I think this fight is gonna go down.
Chandler is a D1 wrestler and can take Dustin down, but I think these guys are going to stand and bang. And in a 3 round fight, the advantage is going to go to Dustin.
Dustin is going to expose Michael Chandler with his boxing. I think he’ll be able to stay covered up and block Chandler’s bombs.
There’s always a chance he could get caught. But I think Dustin’s boxing is going to be too much for Chandler. I’m going with Dustin Poirier by TKO in the third round.
Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira
Finally, the main event of the evening.
I heard Alex Pereira entered the cage at 218 pounds in his last fight versus Strickland. That’s an insane 32 pound gain from middleweight. That’s a fucking giant man.
There’s also a storyline to this fight. Alex Pereira beat Israel twice before in kickboxing. One by decision and one by knockout. But this isn’t kickboxing.
I think Israel’s range and footwork is going to be too much for Pereira. The shape of the Octagon versus a square ring means big Alex Pereira can’t cut Israel off. Israel is going to bounce around and stay at range away from Pereira’s power.
Israel’s just on a different level right now and his confidence is sky high. Plus, I know he wants to avenge those 2 losses.
So with that being said, I’m going to go with Israel Adesanya by unanimous decision.
Book I’m Reading This Week:
Your Next Five Moves: Master the Art of Business Strategy by Patrick Bet-David
I’m only a couple chapters in, but I’m really enjoying this book so far.
Since I’m not training much right now, I’m trying to pour my focus into business, building healthy habits, and becoming a better coach.
Quote from the book:
What it all boils down to is that alignment is the key to fulfillment. Keep these things in mind:
Your vision must align with who you want to be.
Your choices must align with your vision.
Your effort must align with the size of your vision.
Your behavior must align with your values and principles.

While getting stem cell treatment for my shoulder, Sug and I got stem cells in our wiener. Sug got a boner during it because he’s a freak.
The observant person finds many teachers. - James Clear.
I’ve been doing jiu-jitsu for a really long time. Sometimes I see purple belts or blue belts do something that makes me think, “hmm, how’d you do that or where’d you learn how to do that?” The point is, you can learn something from anyone, no matter what level they are.
The ultimate form of preparation is not planning for a specific scenario, but a mindset that can handle uncertainty - James Clear.
This is so important for fighting and life. You can visualize a fight happening in a fucking thousand different scenarios, but something unexpected can still happen. The same thing can happen in life.

TimboSugarShow Ep. 211
We sat down with Luke Thomas to discuss Jake Paul and UFC 281. We all unanimously agreed that Jake Paul is getting better as a boxer and looked good against Anderson. Those haters on social media are awfully silent. And the 3 of us think Israel is going to showcase another dominant performance on Saturday night.
A good morning and night routine will change your life.
Working out in any capacity to me is non-negotiable. If you’re in a slump, do something that will push you in a healthy way like a workout or cold shower. Sug also swears by journaling and writing about your intentions of the day.
Sug and I are where we are today because of books we started reading in coffee shops when we were younger.
We live in a world where anxiety is at an all-time high. You can have a million fucking negative thoughts swirling through your head at any moment. So in the morning, I don’t want to pick up my phone and see all the notifications of drama and bullshit. That stuff will set you off in the wrong direction. Instead, I like to pick up a book and do some light reading to get my mind right for the day.
