Too Much Too Quickly
When you’re a rising star, life can come at you quick.
One day, you’re just a regular person from a small town. The next day, your face is plastered all over social media, and you’re getting all this attention.
With that, comes fame and money. And for most people, it’s really dangerous.
There’s no one to teach you how to deal with that stuff. Schools don’t. If your parents aren’t famous, they won’t have a clue either.
It’s like the Johnny Manziel documentary. He got flooded with fame at 19-20 years old. It really sucked him into that lifestyle, instead of focusing on football.
But if your goal is to live up to your true potential, that’s the real battle. That’s where you gotta focus.
When you’re winning, everyone’s hitting you up. Everyone wants to buy you bottles and party with you. If you’re a guy, chicks will flirt with you more.
For someone like Sean who went through this same trajectory, and who’s kind of a crazy kid… having a baby saved his life.
It gave him a newfound purpose. Now he just wants to be a good dad to his daughter. And being a dad keeps him grounded.
Now instead of wanting to go wild and party, his eyes are focused on his original goal.
To be the best in the world, and live up to his true potential.
External Influences
Here’s another thing that people don’t really teach you to deal with.
Caring about what other people think.
When you’re in high school or even your early 20s, unless you were taught differently, it’s normal to care about what other people think of you.
Maybe you were taught to be this way. Say yes to everything. Make sure your bosses like you.
If everyone likes you, that’s how you move up in life and get what you want, right? Not really.
But later on, you might learn that caring about other people’s opinions is more negative than positive for you.
The truth is, everyone is way too worried about themselves. Even if they think about you for a split moment, they’re gonna go back to thinking about their own insecurities really quick.
Here’s how I think about this:
Earn the respect of the people you respect, and don’t care about the rest.
This is what leads to building your inner circle and just surrounding yourself with good people.
If you don’t have respect for someone or you wouldn’t trade places with them, it doesn’t matter what they think of you.
Thorne
It’s fight week and Thorne has got us with our vitamins and nutrients.
A lot of UFC fighters use Thorne as part of their daily supplement routine.
Thorne is third-party tested for the best quality ingredients so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
I personally use magnesium before sleep, fish oils, amino-acids when I’m training hard, and their VeganPro complex protein.
If you’re in the market for some good supplements, Thorne is the brand I trust. You can feel safe and good about what you’re putting into your body with Thorne.
Use the link below and Throne will hook you up with a 15% discount on your order.

People I Respect
Kind of continuing on from the last section, the people I respect are really smart people who are deep thinkers.
So people like Naval Ravikant, Tim Ferris, Paul Chek, and Joe Rogan.
These are guys who are mature and because of their work, it allows them to be around powerful people. And these guys actually know how to be happy and be at peace.
I’m really into a lot of stuff they talk about.
If you’re trying to find people who you want to get respect from, try finding people who are into similar things but also ahead of you. People who are where you want to be in the future.
Fight Week Thoughts And Emotions
Sean and I have been together for 18 fights now. That’s 18 fight weeks.
In the beginning, it was just me and him. We’d fly together and stay in one hotel room. Whoop someone’s ass, get paid, and fly back until next time.
Now we have a whole team of guys. Dan Gardner, Brandon Harris, Tanquinho, our film guy Garrett, and Imran (owner of Sanabul).
Right now, we’re in the fight before the fight. At this point, a lot of guys freak themselves out over the fight.
But all the hard work is done. Whatever’s gonna happen is gonna happen.
We have one more responsibility before the fight, and that’s the weight cut. So we’re just trying to keep Sugar’s spirits high and not annoy him.
When you’re depleted, it’s really easy to get ticked off at little things. You’re always on edge.
We’re keeping in Sugar’s mind why he’s dangerous. And reminding him what the keys are to winning the fight.
Sugar’s one of those guys who doesn’t take direct coaching that great. Sometimes he does.
With him, you have to coach him without him knowing he’s being coached.
On Saturday, we’re gonna see what happens.
Quick Hits From This Week
Red Hawk Recap Ep. 102
On this pod, I was joined by my friend Ben Davis.
Suga & Red’s Sleep Change For Boston
We got our sleep dialed in for Boston. Sugar hit up this sleep scientist and he wrote us an entire protocol. We gotta get to bed a little later, around 2:30 am, and try to wake up around 11:30 am.
Coaching For A World Title
Honestly, there’s not much of a difference. We’re training for 5 rounds, so our workouts are longer and we start earlier. Outside of the nerves, we’re just doing our thing. I’m just blessed to have a great athlete in Sean.
Is College Worth It?
Ben thought his college experience was beneficial. But ultimately, he’s not using his degree. He sees it more as a thing to put in his back pocket.
Guilt Is Society’s Voice In Your Head
Could it be from our programming? Naval has some deep shit.
TimboSugarShow Ep. 248
If It Hurts To Hear It, Look For The Truth In It. If It Comforts You To Hear It, Look For The Lie In It.
If something stings a little bit, there’s probably some truth to it. There’s probably some truth in it.
Tim & Suga’s Happiness
Naval said that happiness is a choice that you make and a skill set you develop. A lot of it has to do with physical health too, get your things in order. Hydration, clean eating, and good sleep. I know when I feel a little unhappy, I get a quick lift in and feel like a million bucks.
Be Family With Your Friends
Be friendly with strangers, and be a stranger to your enemies. Interesting, some people say to keep your enemies close.
Tame Your Mind
If you want to make good decisions, be a calm and peaceful person. Not everyone knows what it’s like to march to a cage with thousands of screaming fans. You gotta stay calm the entire time. Suga is really good with this.
