Red Hawk Essentials #69
Using Your Free Time As A Young Buck, Creating The Perfect Schedule, Different Sports
Using Your Free Time As A Young Buck
Coming up in this sport, you have a lot of free time.
You train in the morning and you train in the afternoon. Unless you’re working a ton, you do have a lot of free time in between.
If you’re not working on your skills, you could be working on your brand. I don’t think it hurts to be posting and growing your social media.
Especially if you’re a naturally funny person or good on camera. Be funny, be entertaining, and slowly get your name out there.
If you grow it early on, it can become a good stream of revenue. The content doesn’t need to be the best content in the world in the beginning.
Just start getting used to doing it. You’ll get better as you create more consistently.
Of course, this comes second to training.
Making it as a fighter, you’re gonna need 10-12 sessions a week. That grind has to come first. The content stuff comes second.
If you’re missing workouts because you have to edit or record content, then it’s hindering you and your career.
But if you keep it as a hobby and stay consistent in your free time, it can only help.
And when you keep winning fights, getting finishes, and eventually making it to the big show — that’s when all your social media will really blow up. You’ll have that backlog of content.
A lot of guys start doing content when they start getting traction from fighting. But it’s harder.
You could still do it. But content is a grind and you have to be consistent over a long period of time. Just like anything.
But that’s why a lot of guys drop off. That’s why the majority of podcasts, YouTubers, and other content creators quit within a month or two.
Things take way longer than you expect. That’s just how it is.
You gotta make sure you have the right goal in mind. If your goal is to become a fighter, your training sessions come first.
And if you’ve got some free time, look into posting some content. But just know, it’s going to take a long time.
I’ve been doing content for a long time now. Now I’m making more money than I ever did fighting.
If you’re willing to grind, it’ll reward you eventually.
Creating The Perfect Schedule
I think I’ve created the perfect schedule for myself where I’m never gonna burn out.
Yeah, I have a lot of things going on. But I think the key is to always have time for yourself.
At my gym, I don’t teach every single class. If I wanted to make more money from my gym, I could be there all day and not pay anyone else.
By the second half of the day, I’d probably be all pissed off and just trying to get through these classes.
The two classes a day I do teach, I absolutely love them. I can’t wait to get to the gym and teach.
And it’s because my schedule gives me free time to work on other things for myself. I use that time to be creative and create content, lift weights, or even roll for myself.
That recharges my battery for when I do need to teach. If money wasn’t a thing, I would still go to my two classes a day, teach them, and hang out with my students.
You’re not always gonna have as much time as you want for your passions, but you gotta do the best you can.
If you’ve created responsibilities for yourself like having kids or buying shit like nice cars, you gotta work.
And that’s fine. But you gotta adjust. Maybe you gotta get your training in at night or in the early morning.
It’s just a question of how passionate are you?
If you’re in your early twenties, think long and hard about creating responsibilities for yourself.
You don’t need kids when you’re in your 20s just because your parents did. You can have kids in your 30s when you’re more financially stable.
Getting married and having kids, make sure you’ve really thought about it. Make sure you’re doing it for yourself and not for anyone else.
It’s your life.
Thorne
If you’re working on your health, some good supplements will go a long way.
A bunch of UFC fighters use Thorne as part of their daily health routine.
Thorne is third-party tested for the best quality ingredients so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
I personally use magnesium before sleep, fish oils, amino acids when I’m training hard, and their VeganPro complex protein.
If you’re in the market for some good supplements, Thorne is the brand I trust. You can feel safe and good about what you’re putting into your body with Thorne.
Use the link below and Throne will hook you up with an additional 15% discount on your order.
Different Sports
Mighty Mouse is a ninja. A true martial artist.
One of the best to ever do it and recently, he won gold and silver at Pan AMs. He even tapped a dude who weighed more than 250 lbs.
With that being said, this is a really impressive feat because fighting and jiu-jitsu in a Gi are two completely different sports.
You could be a great MMA grappler, but it’s hard to transition to the Gi.
Guys get dragged around by their collars, they can’t break grips, and get tapped out. Then they get pissed and make excuses like, “Well if punches were allowed, I would’ve hammer fisted the shit out of the guy!”
Two completely different sports.
A martial artist like Mighty Mouse tries to learn from the sport without a big ego.
This guy is one of the greatest champions of all time. But he goes in there with an open mind to learn the Gi. He learned the Gi guards like De La Riva, spider guard, leg lassos, lapel guards, etc.
This is not fighting. So he probably got tapped out a lot and he’s fine with it because he’s learning the sport of jiu-jitsu.
Fighters usually want to avoid the Gi. It is hard and a different sport.
That’s why I appreciate guys like Mighty Mouse and Benson Henderson. They compete in Gi and No-Gi, compete in wrestling, and other competitions.
True martial artists.
Quick Hits From This Week
Red Hawk Recap Ep. 133
On this episode of the pod, I was joined by MLB star Evan Longoria. We talk MLB party stories, Diddy, and more!
How to Become a Professional Athlete
A lot of guys go to prep schools and get put on a path to become a pro athlete. But a lot of them don’t make it. Evan said he’s seen a lot more talented dudes than him just fall off because they got lazy and didn’t put the work in. They relied too much on their own talent.
Evan Longoria’s Pregame Ritual
Evan likes to get to the field at the same time. For a 7pm game, he’s trying to get there at 12:30. It’s a loooong day.
Evan’s MLB Partying Stories
When you advance in the playoffs, everyone parties in the clubhouse and ends up at the club. Evan’s favorite story is from The Box in New York.
Tim is Teaching Evan BJJ
Evan learns really well, we’re on our 4th or 5th practice together. Open-minded guy too. Some guys I’m just like, damn are you even listening?
