Red Hawk Essentials #75
This Can’t Be Replicated, Prepare For Tomorrow Today, True Measure of Success
This Can’t Be Replicated
There is nothing else in life that will replicate the emotions of a fight. Especially if you’re fighting for money, there’s so much on the line.
But I truly think for real peace and happiness, you can’t define yourself as a fighter.
That’s what you do, not what you are.
Ask yourself what’s truly important in life. Your health. Your relationships with your loved ones. Doing what you love.
Books like Ego Is The Enemy by Ryan Holiday can really help a lot of people out, especially fighters.
As a high-level fighter, you get praised so much for your accomplishments. But that book will give you a ton of tips to work around that.
And I think the only thing that feels almost as good as winning a fight is helping other people. Help people achieve what they want to achieve and give back.
Prepare For Tomorrow Today
If I know I’m gonna have a busy day or tough training session the next day, I’m preparing the day/night before.
I’m not taking a ton of edibles and getting blazed. Or stuffing my face. I know the repercussions of that is feeling groggy the next morning.
Instead, I’m making sure I’m doing my stretches and mobility exercises. I’m making sure I’m hydrated. I’m eating some good carbs and fuel so my gut isn’t all bubbly before bed.
I’m making sure I get proper sleep so I can wake up feeling focused and sharp.
Or you can do the opposite. Get really high, eat a bunch of snacks, surf your phone all night, and skip your stretches. See what happens the next morning.
Sometimes I do all the right things and still feel groggy and low energy the next morning.
Dunking your head under in the cold plunge will get you out of any funk you’re in.
Get some sunlight. Don’t drink your coffee right away. I learned this from Andrew Huberman – wait at least 1 hour before your coffee.
But if you’re gonna prepare for a busy day, do it the day before. Don’t wait until the morning.
Thorne
A good way to prepare for tomorrow? Get yourself a good supp.
A bunch of UFC fighters use Thorne as part of their daily health routine.
Thorne is third-party tested for the best quality ingredients so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
I personally use magnesium before sleep, fish oils, amino acids when I’m training hard, and their VeganPro complex protein.
If you’re in the market for some good supplements, Thorne is the brand I trust. You can feel safe and good about what you’re putting into your body with Thorne.
Use the link below and Throne will hook you up with an additional 15% discount on your order.
True Measure of Success
I get to wake up each day excited for what the day brings.
Dana White talks about how true success is building a life you can’t wait to wake up for.
At this point in my life, I believe I have exactly that. But it definitely didn’t happen overnight.
This took years and years of studying. Watching and learning how people run gyms. Watching how successful coaches teach. And being obsessed with martial arts.
But also seeing what other coaches did wrong. I saw how coaches were training people all day and getting burnt out. So I knew not to do that from the beginning.
Getting excited to wake up for each day is a great goal. And I think everyone can get there.
Get passionate about something. Even if you’re not passionate about something, find something you’re good at that you don’t mind doing. Get even better at that.
Also, don’t create massive responsibilities for yourself. If you’re a young buck, don’t go cumming in all these girls.
Now you’re gonna have a kid and the main focus can’t be you anymore. You’re not gonna be able to wake up every day and do what you love.
You made those decisions to create a human. Now it’s your responsibility to take care of that human.
Creating responsibilities this early on when you’re not ready is not gonna help you get to that ultimate goal – creating a life you want to wake up to.
Quick Hits From This Week
Red Hawk Recap Ep. 144
On this episode of the pod, Joe and I sit down with my buddy Jared Cannonier.
Terrible Stoppage in Jared’s Fight vs Imavov
Jared was shocked at first, but he was disappointed after watching it back. Losses hit heavy. No one wants to lose like that.
Jared Never Hurts People in Training
Jared is one of the best guys I’ve ever seen spar with smaller guys. When smaller guys crack him, he keeps his cool and doesn’t try to hurt them. He can cause some serious damage, so that’s good on Jared.
Naval Ravikant Clip Reaction (What is True Intelligence)
Naval said true intelligence is getting what you want out of life. Jared and Joe said a lot of smart people in the world hate their life.
Tim Can’t Stop Surfin’
I can’t even watch a movie anymore. The algorithms got me good. Everything I’m seeing is something that appeals to me. Jared tries to catch himself when he’s scrolling.
