Surrendering The Outcome
Surrendering the outcome is supposed to help calm the nerves. But there’s a lot on the line when you’re a professional. Money, rankings, career progression, etc.
When I was fighting, I wasn’t great at surrendering the outcome. I always put so much pressure on myself.
I knew I needed the money. I knew I needed the win to get to where I wanted to go.
That was before I learned how to actually meditate. How to actually follow my breath and bring myself into the present moment.
Sugar is one of the best at letting his body go and getting into flow state. Especially with all the pressure he’s had on him and the magnitude of his fights. It’s pretty impressive how he lets it all go.
At the end of the day, what’s the worst thing that could happen?
You lose.
Your family still loves you. Your friends will still be your friends. There are a lot of other worse things that are happening in the world than losing a fight.
Of course, it’s gonna be hard if the fight doesn’t go your way. But it’s all about being a King of Perspective.
The most important things in life will still be there for you.
Learning how to follow your breath and bring yourself into the present moment. That’s the best way to not stress yourself out about what’s gonna happen in the fight and the need to win.
Focus on what you can control.
The Stakes Of Winning
It’s so easy for coaches who have never fought before or people sitting on their couch, screaming at the TV, “Just go! Just go!”
When you’re in the sold-out arena, or live on ESPN or PPV, taking risks and being vulnerable is scary.
Your family, your friends, and your sponsors – they’re all watching ya.
There’s so much pressure on these guys who enter the cage. Especially when you’re in the UFC, the biggest organization in the sport.
In the last 10 weeks, the only thing that’s on these fighters’ minds is their fight. They’re cutting 20+ pounds, depleted, and training hard.
Now you have to get half-naked and fight another professional guy.
If you lose, you get half your pay. And you never know, you might be one loss away from losing your job. I’ve seen guys who were on winning streaks, lose one fight, then get cut by the UFC.
So now you’ve lost your job, it’s back to the regional scene where you’re making barely enough money to survive.
You gotta put yourself in their shoes. It’s easy to just say, “Throw everything you got! Just go!”
If you do, you can understand why these guys just want to win. They want to get that extra check for their family. And if you win, your contract goes up for the next fight.
Thorne
A good way to prepare for tomorrow? Get yourself a good supp.
A bunch of UFC fighters use Thorne as part of their daily health routine.
Thorne is third-party tested for the best quality ingredients so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
I personally use magnesium before sleep, fish oils, amino acids when I’m training hard, and their VeganPro complex protein.
If you’re in the market for some good supplements, Thorne is the brand I trust. You can feel safe and good about what you’re putting into your body with Thorne.
Use the link below and Throne will hook you up with an additional 15% discount on your order.
Coming To The Sphere
Title defense against Merab this September. Mexican Independence Day. Gonna be a jam-packed crowd at the Sphere.
But at the end of the day, every fight is the same. It don’t matter where it is.
The lighting will be the same. The cage is the same. Everything is the same.
Since Sean is a superstar and the champion, there’s so much media. All day every day, there’s a camera in your face.
But Sean is used to it. Merab isn’t.
The only thing we can do is focus on what we can control. Prepare as best as we can and come in as healthy as we can.
After that, we’ll see what’s gonna happen.
Always remember…
You get to do this. You don’t have to do this.
Sean doesn’t have to do this. He gets to do this. Regardless of the outcome, life is good.
We’re very lucky.
