It’s On! Suga vs. Aljo
We’ve got our opponent. We don’t have a date yet, but it’s gonna be this year, ideally August. We’ll see what the UFC says.
So now it’s time to strategize.Â
Early on in this stage, game-planning and film study starts now for me. Fortunately, there’s a lot of film on Aljo. And if he has certain tendencies, I’ll find them.
This way in my mitt sessions with Suga, I can have him practicing and throwing stuff I think will work.Â
It’ll be kinda tough though because Aljo is so funky. But Suga is also funky. With KO power in each limb.
As we get closer to the fight, Sug and I will watch film together just to make sure we’re on the same page.
And you guys already know the plan.
Shock the world.
Support System
When you pursue things with statistically small success rates like fighting, it’s hard to get a support system around you.
I think it’s rare to have a strong support system right off the bat for fighting. And if you do, great.
But if you don’t, you just have to stay committed to getting better and learning.Â
Sometimes you can show your loved ones your passion through commitment and discipline. And just by seeing that, they might jump on board and start showing support.
When I started, I found support outside of my family.Â
I was lucky enough that my high school wrestling coach was a lawyer, and I had some friends who owned local businesses in Great Falls, Montana. They saw that I had talent and wanted to support me.
One of my friends gave me $350/month and that helped me pay rent. And whenever I fought, some other local sponsors would give me $250-$500 for spots on my shorts or banner.Â
There’s people out there who are willing to help. You just have to show them and give them reason to.

To-Do List
When I make my to-do list for the day, I try to get the most important things out of the way first. This is a concept I learned from Tim Ferris.
It’s kind of like a domino effect. If you take care of the bigger things first, they might end up taking care of the smaller things you had in mind.Â
For me, it’s usually getting an email or call out of the way. And then I’ll try to knock out the rest of the things for the day. This way, by the end of the day, I can feel like I’ve earned my rest.Â
New Gym Updates
The new gym is starting to grow, and it’s almost breaking even. Starting small is key to a successful gym.
I think a lot of people in the beginning have an idea of their gym and want to make it so nice right off the bat. So they take out loans for hundreds of thousands of dollars to make that happen.Â
But then, the memberships aren’t popping off like they expected.Â
Rather than focusing on aesthetics first, I focus on the experience. Making sure the gym has good vibes and has good training.Â
If you can nail those two, the word will spread organically. People are gonna tell their friends and family, and post about it.Â
You will see growth, but it just takes a bit of time.Â
I started off my first gym in a mechanic’s garage. The rent was $900/month and if I had 5 students, that covered the rent.Â
We slowly grew out of that into a 2000 sq. ft. place with $2500/month rent. And now we’re in the 5000 sq. ft. place and we have the 2500 sq. ft. place also.Â
After one more year, I plan on bringing both the gyms together into one plaza.Â
It’s gonna be my gym, a coffee shop, and the kickboxing gym on the other side of it. We’re gonna take over the whole Peoria plaza and make it an epic training center.
Can’t wait for it to come to reality.
What I’m ReadingÂ
I’m re-reading How To Win Friends And Influence People. It’s a great book on communication that everyone should read.Â
Some things you can learn from this book:
The benefits of admitting when you’re wrong
Being a good listener. Why it’s important to be a good listener
Negotiations. Negotiating to a place where everyone can benefit from it
Seeing from the other people’s points of views. Everyone is wired differently and experiences a different reality. So it’s important to understand the way you see things isn’t how others see things. I think the ability to understand this is like a superpower.Â
Quick Hits From The Week
A couple of goodies from Shane Parrish.
What looks like skill is often just a lot of work that no one sees. Long nights, early mornings, sweat, tears. If you want remarkable results, you need to work remarkably hard. Professionals go all in. They don’t leave at five every day because that’s 8 hours from when they show up; they grind for small insights. Knowledge accumulates in drips and gets leveraged in buckets.
Sometimes it takes years to become an overnight success. You gotta keep being consistent and trusting that success will come.
The person who cannot take advantage of an opportunity is no better off than the person that never sees it in the first place. A friend of mine recently learned this lesson the hard way when the deal of a lifetime was offered to them, but they couldn’t take advantage of it because they had no cash.
When you tilt the odds in your favor, the world does most of the work for you.
That’s why you always gotta keep working and always be ready. You never know when opportunity is gonna come knockin’ and when it does, it won’t be there for long.
Red Hawk Recap Ep. 88
On this episode of the pod, Big Dick Rick rejoins us again.
Rick getting out of rehab
Rick just finished a 130 day stint in rehab. He was getting that knowledge. Tough situation for Rick, he’s got pain in his leg and he was on fentanyl.
Suga in cage after main event
Now that the weekend is over, this actually happened. James, you’re Mystic Mac. Boy oh boy did it get heated in there.
Stem cells
I recommend stem cells from CPI. I thought I was never gonna train again and now I’m almost back to 100%. It is expensive though, be ready to drop $15K-$20K.
Final Meal
A big fat plate of Mexican food for me. What would you guys have? Let me know in the comments.
Keep moving forward
Are you a Top G or part of the Beta Brotherhood? Honestly, I think more people should ask themselves if they’re a bitch. If you are, stay where you are. Do nothing. If not, go do it.
If you want to give ol’ Rick some cheddar for a burger or something, Venmo me @Timbotits and just put Rick in the message.

Heard Chris Weidman on the ufc weigh in show say that Aljo wakes up at 3am on weigh in day to cut 6 pounds to reduce the window of suffering. Interested to hear how your weight cuts changed over the years, things that worked, didn’t work etc. Any bad weight cuts from the amateur days? Really enjoy these, thank you
