If You Haven’t Found Your Passion Yet…
It’s so important to find that one thing that brings you absolute joy no matter how shitty you feel.
For me, obviously my biggest passion is martial arts.
Whenever I train hard, I’m in complete focus in the present moment. Nothing else crosses my mind.
A passion could be a hobby, line of work, or a project. I’ll give you some tips later that might point you in the right direction.
If you’re afraid to try something new, this next part might help you.
Maybe you think you’re too old, not smart enough, or not talented enough.
It’s all bullshit. Resistance is just kicking your ass.
I was a 17 year old kid who had no idea where to start.
So I went into a local Taekwondo gym that also had MMA classes. The head instructor was an Olympian at Taekwondo and also had a blue belt in BJJ.
After Taekwondo, the instructor held MMA classes where we’d learn sprawls, and practice triangles and armbars.
Of course it was scary at first. I didn’t know anyone and had no experience.
But I knew if I went in there, worked hard and be nice to everyone, I’d fit in.
And that’s the case with anything or any gym. If you show up consistently, be humble and respectful - you’ll make friends and be a part of the group.
So if you haven’t found your passion yet, here’s what I would do.
First, get your health in order. Eat well, sleep well, stay hydrated. If you want to optimize your brain, you gotta optimize your body.
My personal recommendation for anyone who feels like they’re in a bad spot in life is to read Paul Chek’s material. He’s got a book called How To Eat, Move, And Be Healthy! and he’s got some courses for you to go deeper too.
Paul’s material has positively impacted my life. He’s got some good guidelines on how to move your life in a healthier direction if you feel like you’re stuck and not improving.
How could you enjoy things in life if you feel lethargic or feel like shit all the time?
Next, I would ask yourself this question:
Pretend money wasn’t a thing. What would you do every day?
And if you still don’t know, keep focusing on making your body and mind healthier.
Also if you’re younger, try to live minimally. The lack of clutter will bring a lot of creative energy your way.
When you’re able to think clearly, the answer could just show up in front of you.
And if you want more direction, here’s a list of habits I stick to:
Tim’s List of Habits With A High Rate of Return In Life
Sleeping 8+ hours every night.
Lifting 3 times a week.
Reading, 10 minute meditation.
Drinking more quality water and less of everything else.
Don’t fall asleep scrolling on your phone, put it on airplane mode in another room.
Be thankful for the small things (arms, legs, eyes, roof over your head, etc)
Biohacking
I first learned about biohacking 6 years ago from a guy named Ben Greenfield. The guy is bad ass, look up his books and stuff if you’re interested.
Biohacking is basically using scientifically proven activities and experiments to enhance your vitality and function.
Diving down the biohacking rabbit hole is how I learned about most of the things I’m using today. Red light therapy, chili pads, and more.
Right now, Suga and I are looking into getting a PEMF machine.
PEMF stands for Pulse Electromagnetic Field. Just as the name suggests, the machine sends magnetic energy waves through your body to support healing. So it’s good for recovering from injuries and reducing inflammation.
I just watched a video of Tony Robbins using one. Every morning, he lays on his PEMF mat and gets the electrodes to wake him up. The guy is worth $600M. So if he’s using it in his daily routine, I think it’s worth looking into.
Right now, I’m just doing my research and shopping around because they’re not cheap. They go for around $10,000-$20,000. It’s going to be a long term investment, so I wanna make sure I get the best.
Thorne Supplements
Speaking of biohacking, supplements are a good way to help get your health in line.
I personally use Thorne. Thorne is the supplement brand trusted by UFC fighters.
It’s third-party tested for the best quality ingredients so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
I personally use magnesium before sleep, fish oils, amino-acids when I’m training hard, and their VeganPro complex protein.
If you’re in the market for some good supplements, Thorne is the brand I trust. You can feel safe and good about what you’re putting into your body with Thorne.

Another Passion of Mine
Once you drink a real good cup of coffee, you’ll never look back.
Besides martial arts, coffee is a huge passion of mine. Like I said in Red Hawk Essentials #11, one of my favorite purchases in 2022 was my Gaggia Classic Pro Expresso Machine.
When I was studying biohacking 6 years ago, I also learned that coffee beans are heavily sprayed with pesticides. So if your coffee beans aren’t organic, there’s a good chance you got some pesticides lingering around.
When I was looking for a good way to make coffee, my buddy and retired UFC fighter Scott Holtzman, turned me onto an Aeropress coffee maker. It’s a pretty cheap way to make a good cup of coffee.
Look up the inverted method on YouTube. An Aeropress is only like $30 and it’ll make you toss your Keurig.
And here’s a couple tips I learned about when it comes to drinking coffee.
It’s good have 30g of protein before you have your coffee.
Wait 90 minutes in the morning before drinking your coffee, so your cortisol levels and blood levels don’t spike. That’s how you get that midday crash.
So every morning, I’ve been getting 30g of protein through some organic milk, then I hit my red light therapy. After that, I’ll have my coffee.
So far, it’s working real good. I feel like I have a lot of creative energy throughout the day.
And to end this, I want to own my own coffee shop one day.
I love everything about coffee shops.
Mariah and I used to visit coffee shops to try out different lattes. Sug and I used to spend time in coffee shops to read when he was younger.
I feel like a lot of good things happen at coffee shops.
People go there to have dates. It’s a great place to study and read. And you have good quality coffee to enjoy.
So owning my own shop one day is on the list of goals.
What I’m Reading This Week
I haven’t picked up any new books recently so I’m bouncing around, flipping through books like Tools of Titans and trying to finish Ungifted.
This is something I recommend too. If you have a few books that you love, highlight some of the parts that stick out to you. A year or two down the road, you can always revisit it and get a good reminder.
Quick Hits From This Week
Some quotes that I came across this week:
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
- Hunter S. Thompson
“Success Must Include Peace”
”The very word ‘success’ has become contaminated by our ideas of someone extraordinary, very rich, etc., and that’s really unhelpful… Ultimately, to be properly successful is to be at peace as well.”
What are your thoughts on these quotes? Do they resonate with you?
Red Hawk Recap Ep. 74
I’m trying try to get on the USA Team for BJJ
If all goes well, it’ll be in the Olympics in 2028. But this year they’re having trials, qualifiers, and then the world championship in Poland. I spoke with one of the owners, and he invited me to try out. He said I can skip the trials and do a qualifier. 5 minute rounds, no leg locks. This rule set is right down my alley, so we’ll see what happens!
Books I’d give to an 18 year old
Jx suggests Rich Dad, Poor Dad, The Four Agreements, and maybe The Almanack of Naval Ravikant. I think Tim Ferris’s stuff would be good. Tools of Titans, Tribe of Mentors. Steven Pressfield’s War of Art is another good one. What would you recommend to an 18 year old?
Just back from Tijuana
Another successful trip to CPI and Chipsa hospital. Got another 120 million stem cells via IV. They wanted to give me another 10 million in my shoulder, but I declined. My shoulder still hurts, but it’s 70-80% better than it was. So things are working. Plus, I’m back to training hard. I’m in a groove right now, so I don’t want to be sidelined for another 2-3 weeks.
TimboSugarShow Ep. 223
On this episode of the pod, we were joined by the one and only Michael Bisping, former UFC middleweight champ and now star commentator for the fights.
Got some sweet fights coming up
Gilbert vs. Masvidal is a sick fight. I’m pumped for the Alex vs. Izzy rematch, we’ll see how Izzy bounces back. Sug is going to Vegas this week so we might have an update soon on what’s next.
How important is a stable relationship for a fighter’s career?
Bisping has been with his wife since the start of his fighting career. Mike says it’s imperative that if you have a relationship, make sure it’s not toxic. Make sure your life is in order outside the cage, or else it’ll affect your performances inside the cage.
Bisping got a title shot while on a movie set
Mike got the call 17 days out while he was on a movie set, hadn't trained in months, and was 30 lbs overweight. He texted Dana because Weidman was out, and they said no at first. But while on a run, Dana announced on Sportscenter that Mike was next.
Mike almost declined. He didn’t think he could do it at first. But his coach told him that he’s been training his whole life and to cut the fucking negative thoughts. Let’s go win a world title. So bad ass.
The mind is the most important thing
Bisping says he used to mind-fuck himself. He would put so much pressure on himself. This caused him to over-train, stress himself out, and be so attached to winning. But he went into that Rockhold fight with a calm mind because everyone expected him to lose. The rest is history.

I like the idea of 30g of protein before coffee. I'll add that to my daily routine.
How are you getting 30 grams of protein through milk brather
